When we list a dog as a "Courtesy Post" we have no control over that dog's destination.  Courtesy Post for Owner means we are trying to help an owner find their dog a new home. Courtesy Post for ___ Rescue means we are offering our website as an additional outlet to help that rescue get more exposure to the dog they are trying to place.

Courtesy Post for Lake County Dog Shelter

This is one of those stories you never want to read about when you are a dog lover.  This sweet senior girl could really use a loving home for the rest of her years left.

This is what the shelter tells us:

We are desperately seeking a permanent home for Missy, the 8 yr old G Shep/Beagle that Dr. Schwartz did an “embedectomy” on.

She is such a sweetheart - coming around well; stays in the front office during the days; she has never had an accident and is a food hoarder

(she’ll carry her food bowl, dump it into her blanket, and cover it up), loves other dogs, very shy of people.

She was running loose, we knew who the owner was. When we brought the dog into the shelter we found the choker she had on was tightened with a zip tie and was embedded into her neck with maggots. She spent the weekend at the vet to get that all cleaned out. The owner was cited into court for dog at large and the judge told her she could not have her dog back. She lived in an outside cage that was overgrown with weeds and vines. She does seem to be housebroken (no accidents in the office) She has had numerous litters and not much human contact. She is wonderful!! The vet thought about 8 years old but the owner said 14 years old. We are siding with the vet on that one. At first she made no eye contact and had no emotion but after spending the days in the front office this past week she now wags her tail and looks you in the eye. She does not like to eat and will bury her food for later. She loves other dogs, that is the one thing from the beginning that brought her to life. She is a runner, she tried to escape any chance she could find.

Thanks for anything you can do and I will let you know if her time is getting short.
